Testimonial.to
$800K+ ARR (Testimonial alone), $1.3M+ combined with PDF.ai, bootstrapped
Ex-Cisco engineer, self-taught during COVID leave. Failed 4 products before Testimonial.to; now generating $1.3M+ combined ARR.
COVID sent Damon Chen home from Cisco on unpaid leave with a newborn. With a $9.99 Udemy course and four failed products behind him, he built Testimonial.to in three weeks — solving his own problem of not knowing how to do sales or marketing.
The Receipt
“testimonial.to is just so likely to misspelt that this is probably a good move. Not sure about the cost, though.”
“My first million ✔️ 3 years ago, Covid hit; I quit job to care for my kid. I self taught web dev, failed 5 projects, finally https://testimonial.to was born and started growing. You never know when your destiny will take a turn, but when it does, grab it and push hard!”

Revenue
$2.4M total revenue; $1.3M+ combined ARR across Testimonial + PDF.ai
'Wall of Love' branded embeds: every testimonial widget carried 'Powered by Testimonial.to' branding by default — each customer's site became an acquisition channel; removing the logo required a paid upgrade
Build-in-public on Twitter: grew from 70 to 30K+ followers in two years; the public job-quit pledge created accountability and press that no ad could buy
Lifetime deal as validator, then hard cut: used $199 LTD to prove demand, then killed it deliberately to force recurring — a classic validation-then-convert move
SEO compounding: became primary acquisition channel in year two, ranking for 'how to collect testimonials', 'wall of love', 'social proof widget' long-tail terms
My first million ✔️ 3 years ago, Covid hit; I quit job to care for my kid. I self taught web dev, failed 5 projects, finally https://testimonial.to was born and started growing. You never know when your destiny will take a turn, but when it does, grab it and push hard!
💡 What you can learn
- Testimonial.to succeeded because 'just use a Typeform' ignores the last mile: getting the testimonial from a form onto your website without a developer, and then having every embed quietly recruit new customers.
- Damon built the distribution into the product.
- The Wall of Love was the ad.
When they pushed back
After a $199 lifetime deal validated demand, Chen killed LTDs cold and switched to subscriptions. He tweeted he'd quit Cisco when MRR hit $1K. It hit $1K in March 2021. He quit.
